Westpunt - Seru Belefá
- Details
The story goes that in the hills behind the church of Westpunt there was a house that was used by military personnel during the Second World War maybe for storing weapons or ammunition. The strangest stories are told; there should be cannons, guns and shells in these hills. More than enough reason to investigate this. And because one of the people who would know more about this is at Wacao, we make a first stop there.
The Seru Kommandant
- Details
The Seru Kommandant (mountain of the commander) is a 130 meter high mountain between the bays of Lagun and St. Crus. As such a good place for an observation post overlooking a large coastal area with several fortifications. For us a challenge to find the remnants of such an observation post as well as trying to reach the top. So we gathered at 8:15 AM at the bay of Lagun where we parked our cars.
To the top of the Seru Kabayé
- Details
We hiked several times in this neighborhood; last time we went to the top of the Seru Kabayé where we found a triangulation point of Kadaster. This mountain appears to have a second top which is only marginably lower than the top that we reached last time. The name Seru Kabayé suggests that it has something to do with a horseman; although Kabayé is not an existing word in the local language Papiamentu, it sounds like someone who rides or owns a horse (Kabai). So maybe we could find a watch post of this horseman on this second top. We don't need much to start an investigation, so on Valentine's Day we, the sleuths, gathered once again at the kunuku (farm land) of Ronnie Christina, where we are allowed to park our cars when we are in this neighborhood.
To the top of the Seri Pilá
- Details
On Thursday January 24, 2013 we went for a nature walk to the Seri Pilá (Mountain of the pillar). We had a special guest with us this time, André van Proosdij, the author of Arnoldo's Zakflora (pocket flora) for Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. He is born in Curaçao but lives currently in the Netherlands. As you can guess his interest is the plant world of Curaçao.
Siberie - Seru Dakue
- Details
On Thursday, January 17, 2013 we visited the plateau behind plantation house Siberie. Geologically the oldest part of the island, the part which first surfaced. It is a limestone plateau with still quite old vegetation. On Werbata nothing special is visible in this area, so this time it is mainly a nature walk. With special guest Bert Kienjet, who, inspired by the nature of Curacao, created a number of etchings; each of the sleuths have received a print as a gift (see picture)..
