Knip - waterworks and indigo tank
- Details
In july 2010 the members of the then much smaller Working group Archaeology found a construction that we identified as an indigo tank. We based our search then on instructions from André Rancuret. It was one of the first indigo tanks that we had seen. In the meantime we have found a large number of indigo tanks. That also means that our knowledge about indigo tanks has increased since then. So on December 4, 2014 we decided to revisit this indigo tank to be sure that it indeed is what we thought it was.
From Knip to Pos Kayuda
- Details
In the past we already visited Pos Kayuda coming from the Seru Gracia in the Christoffel park; that was a very long hike. From a previous excursion by the 'Vrienden van het Nationaal Archief' we knew that there is also a trail from country house Knip to Pos Kayuda. That is what we wanted to try out.
A small group of the sleuths parked their cars at the plantation house at 8 AM on Thursday November 27. From there we followed the asphalt road looking for the entry point of the trail to Pos Kayuda.
We found the entry point and entered the vegetation there. The first few meters were a bit difficult. Apparently a tree fell down and partly blocked the trail. We had to crawl under it to reach the nicely maintained trail. There were a lot of plastic strips tied to the trees to indicate where to walk.
Knip - Juliana
- Details
I never knew there was a region in Curaçao with the name Juliana; probably you are as surprised as I were. Fred found this area when he was looking for a target for our next hike. There is a tanki indicated on the Werbata map in the area Juliana, South of the bay of Kleine Knip. So we decided to go looking for this tanki. We, a small group of the archaeology leuths, Karel Aster, Eddy, Fred and I parked our cars at the plantation house of Knip and went from there over the asfaltroad in the direction of the bay of Kleine Knip.
Former village near plantation house Klein St Martha
- Details
Opposite the country house Klein St Martha a village is visible on the topographical map from the beginning of the 20th century. Like most villages from that time this one consisted of some small stone-made houses but mostly houses built from a framework of branches covered with mud. As time goes by not much remains from this kind of houses. Artifacts are the only things that remain from such a village and possibly some foundations. But it is always nice to find proof of a former village so the archaeology sleuths went to this area for an investigation. We were allowed to park our cars at the beautifully restored plantation house of Klein St. Martha. This plantation house is now in use as a small but exclusive hotel and restaurant.

Cueba di Wotty in the Shete Boka area
- Details
On Thursday October 16, 2014 one of the parkrangers of the Christoffel park , Wotty, would show us a cave that he had found in his youth; he himself had nevered entered this cave. So we gathered at the entrance of the Christoffelpark at 8 Am that morning and drove from there to the Shete Boka area. We parked our cars close to Boka Wandomi and Wotty started searching for the entrance of the cave. Later I understood why he had to search; even when you know that there is a cave, the entrance is so small that you easily overlook it. Actually the entrance is so small that not everyone in our group would have fit through it. Fred and I went inside and a bit later also Eddy followed. The others decided to stay outside.
